The Finance Department’s Business License Unit is offering a temporary Business License Tax Compliance Assistance Program (CAP) designed to help individuals and businesses voluntarily resolve prior tax liabilities. This program encourages those who have not filed for a business license, regardless of how many years they have been operating, to register voluntarily. In exchange, the City will offer significant incentives to those who comply: 90% waiver of associated tax penalties.

Apply now! The program will run from June 3, 2019 through July 12, 2019.

To qualify, individuals or businesses must meet the following requirements

  • Must be physically located in Santa Monica
  • An application must be received (or US post office postmarked) no later than July 12, 2019
  • Must have never applied for a business license in the past. Please note: Individuals and businesses previously registered or contacted by the City’s Finance Department for noncompliance of Santa Monica Municipal Code Article 6 will not be eligible.

Program highlights

  • Limited time offer of 90% reduction of penalties
  • Individuals and businesses that remain unlicensed will be subject to more stringent measures after this program concludes
  • Deadline to apply is July 12, 2019
