City facility and service closures for Dec. 22 – Jan. 4, 2026

Several city of Santa Monica facilities and non-essential services will close or operate at limited capacity from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4, 2026. All city operations will resume as usual on Monday, Jan. 5. 

All public safety and emergency services will operate normally during the closure. In addition, trash/recycling/green bin pickup, street sweeping, and transportation and parking operations will continue with only minimal disruptions, as detailed below.

For emergencies, including crimes in progress, fires, and medical emergencies, dial 911.

To navigate which services are available during the holidays, please see the below department schedules and availability. City staff remain committed to serving our community throughout the closure, with staff from each department available as needed to assist with time-sensitive needs. 

If you do not see a specific service listed, please contact 311 for assistance via email, phone or the 311 app. The 311 information line will be staffed throughout the closure and available as a central point of contact for any resident, business or visitor needs. Call 311 within city boundaries or (866) 311-SaMo from outside the city, email 311@santamonica.gov or visit santamonica.gov/311 to reach them during normal business hours, with the exception of these holidays:

Transportation/Parking 

Big Blue Bus, the GoSaMo Center, mobility permit counter services, and parking operations will follow their normal service schedules during the holiday period, with the following exceptions: 


City Clerk Services

The City Clerk’s Office will be available in-person to accept subpoenas, summons, claims, requests for hearings or other forms that must be filed. Please call (310) 458-8211 during regular business hours (please note the office will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch) and a staff member will be available to meet you in front of City Hall shortly to accept the form. Please note that this service is available half days (from 7:30 a.m. - noon) on Dec. 24 and 31, and the office will be fully closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2026.

Community Development 

Building & Safety, Code Enforcement, and City Planning staff will provide essential services including: 

Minimal essential staff will be available to answer questions via 311, with the exception of Dec. 24 and 31 (open from 7:30 a.m. - noon only) and Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1, 2026 (fully closed). Please contact 311 to be transferred to the correct staff person. 


Trash/Recycling 

All services will continue as usual, with the exception of Thursday, Dec. 25, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Please see Residential Collection Services for more information. 


Housing & Human Services 

Winter Camps will operate on the following days: 

CREST: Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays with half days Wednesdays 

PAL: Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 

VAP: Mondays and Tuesdays


Recreation 

Annenberg Community Beach House, including the gated area and the Guest Services Office, will be fully closed; however, the ungated grounds will remain accessible.

Winter Break Camps will operate Dec. 22, 23, 29, and 30 at Marine, Joslyn, Memorial, and Clover parks.

Finance Services 

Our Business License, Utility Billing, and Treasury teams will be available by phone during regular business hours with the exception of Dec. 24 and 31 (open from 7:30 a.m. - noon only) and Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1, 2026 (fully closed). The Revenue team can also be reached by email for any questions or service requests. All online services will remain fully operational and accessible during this time.


Farmers Markets

The Wednesday Downtown Santa Monica Farmers Market will be open on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 30) with limited hours: 8 – 11:30 a.m. Shop early to pick up healthy local treats for the holidays. 


Santa Monica Public Library

While all Library locations will be closed from Dec. 22 through Jan. 4, 2026, the Library is available 24/7 at smpl.org. Get eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies, and more! Items returned during this time will remain on your account until the Library reopens.


Rent Control

The Rent Control office will be closed from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, 2026, and will resume normal operations on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
