Looking to avoid the shopping crowds this Black Friday? Stop by to check out garment worker-turned-superhero Frau Fiber in this popup installation November 24-December 2 at the Camera Obscura Art Lab.
Just in time for the year-end shopping season, Frau Fiber offers mending and alterations. Come in and discuss your tailoring needs, keep garments out of the landfill, and make reuse part of your holiday gift-giving plans! The twist: customers spin the Wheel of Wages to determine the cost of Frau Fiber’s labor on your item (materials needed are separate.) This wheel is divided into countries that produce the bulk of our fast fashion garments and showcase the average hourly wage of garment workers in each country. Allow between 1 and 24 hours for service. Frau Fiber’s Pop-Up Alterations Shop is open Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. from Friday 11/24 - Saturday 12/2 (no service Sunday 11/26.) It’s free to check out the Frau’s work; alteration costs vary.
The Wheel of Wages customers will spin to determine the cost of Frau Fiber's labor.
Frau Fiber is a soft guerilla textile superhero, making the Fast Fashion supply chain transparent through her various garment interventions. She is the founder of the Institute 4 Labor Generosity Workers & Uniforms, a store-front headquarters in downtown Long Beach, California.
