On Sunday, December 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., folks will gather at Beach House before taking to the oceanfront for one of the most beloved Beach House winter traditions – the Snowy Plover Beach Walk!

This free event, geared towards adults, is led by expert naturalists from the Santa Monica and Los Angeles Audubon Societies. It’s a great opportunity to spend some time in nature, exploring the habitat and life cycle of the small, white snowy plovers, listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act, that makes this stretch of Santa Monica State Beach their home.

The morning starts at Beach House Guest Services. You’ll meet our guides and get a lesson on how to use binoculars to make the most of your snowy plover scouting. Binoculars are provided, or you may bring your own. We will then take to the sands to search out the plovers, take in the sea air, and learn about Santa Monica’s shoreline and other avian residents.

We’ll be back up at Guest Services by 10 a.m. If you’re inspired to stick around and enjoy the winter beach morning, there’s Back on the Beach Café for coffee and breakfast. You can also stop at our gallery and catch the current exhibit, Memories of Diaspora: Immigration Narratives of Los Angeles by Art Division. At 11 a.m. the Marion Davies Guest House opens, and Santa Monica Conservancy docents are there to share the site’s rich Gold Coast legacy.

Register Here for this free event. The Beach House has two beach wheelchairs available for this event at no charge.
