Robbery and Shooting

Pier pedestrian ramp, Ocean and Colorado avenues

During the commission of a robbery, the victim was shot in the leg. Officers arrested one juvenile following coordinated searches supported by LAPD air personnel. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Carjacked Vehicle / Firearms Recovery

1400 block, Ocean Avenue; 2nd Street and Colorado Avenue

A vehicle fled an attempted stop and crashed. All four occupants were taken into custody. Officers recovered three loaded ghost guns from a bag removed from the vehicle, which had been stolen in an LAPD-area armed carjacking. A separate individual, unrelated to the vehicle occupants, was arrested for concealing the bag.

Santa Monica College, 1900 Pico Boulevard

SMPD and College Police searched the campus with LAPD aerial and SMPD K9 support. No armed suspect was located.

Stolen Vehicle / Ammunition

1500 block, Ocean Avenue

DSU officers stopped a reported stolen vehicle and arrested the driver. A vehicle inventory recovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, live ammunition, and a rifle magazine. The driver was a convicted felon.

Resisting Arrest / Officer Injury

Lincoln Boulevard and Grant Street

A suspect on post-release community supervision fled a detention and resisted arrest. An officer sustained a head injury during the foot pursuit and takedown, was treated at a hospital, and was released from duty pending recovery. The suspect was arrested.

Sex Offender Registration Compliance

Multiple locations

A coordinated operation resulted in an arrest for a sex-offender registration violation, a probation arrest, and three citations. Separate downtown contacts also identified individuals out of compliance with registration requirements.

Serious Pedestrian Collision

On August 29 at Ocean Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard, a driver stopped at a stop sign, then moved forward and struck an older adult crossing in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver remained at the scene; traffic cameras captured the collision.

Rollover Hit-and-Run Arrest

At 14th Street and Pico Boulevard, a collision caused a vehicle to roll over. Officers located the fleeing driver and vehicle nearby and made an arrest. The victim was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

School and Neighborhood Enforcement

Patrol and motor officers monitored school drop-off and pickup, with checks around Lincoln Middle School and Santa Monica High School. Complaint-driven enforcement included stop-sign concerns near the 800-1100 blocks of Yale Street.

Construction and Commercial Corridors

Motor officers addressed construction and overweight-vehicle concerns near 21st Street and Wilshire Boulevard, construction near 26th Street and Wilshire Boulevard, and traffic concerns in western Beat 4, downtown, and Main Street.

Weapons / Registration

Arrest

During an August 25 public-camping contact, an individual drew a switchblade and threatened HLP officers. Responding personnel assisted in taking the individual into custody. Charges included felony resisting, weapons and municipal-code violations, and failure to comply with sex-offender registration requirements.

Sex Offender Registration and Parole Warrants

An individual contacted in the 500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard initially provided a false name. Fingerprint identification revealed an out-of-compliance sex offender registrant with a no-bail parole warrant. A separate sidewalk-obstruction contact at Lincoln and Santa Monica boulevards resulted in another no-bail parole-warrant arrest.

Encampment Cleanup

HLP assisted Mariposa with a Santa Monica Bluffs cleanup on August 27, removing several encampments and debris. Focused deployments also covered the beach, downtown, Tongva Park, the Civic Center, and corridors.

Quality-of-Life Follow-Up

CET coordinated HLP checks in the alley near the OPCC Access Center following recurring public-urination concerns. NROs also continued visible patrol checks at Virginia Avenue Park and along Pico Boulevard.

Coffee with a Cop

CET held events at Pacific Park and the Downtown Substation following the recent downtown shootings. Command Staff, Patrol, DSU personnel, City officials, and the Mayor joined the substation event to hear concerns and provide reassurance.

Neighborhood Watch

Meetings addressed burglary concerns in the Pico Boulevard area, the 700-800 blocks of Bay Street, and the 3100-3200 blocks of Pearl Street. Officers provided home-security guidance, crime-prevention resources, and direct access to assigned Neighborhood Resource Officers (NROs).

LA28 Regional Planning

CET participated in discussions of the Venice traffic plan and possible Santa Monica impacts, including transit congestion, freeway access, hotel occupancy, and country-sponsored or LA28-related activities. Coordination with Los Angeles representatives will continue.

Mental-Health Follow-Up

NROs followed up on repeated calls involving a resident with possible mental-health needs. An NRO is coordinating with the Department of Mental Health to pursue an evaluation and appropriate resources.

Business Crime Prevention

A Crime Prevention Coordinator assessed security at California Closets, consulted with Santa Monica Volvo about recurring vehicle break-ins, and provided guidance through Business Concierge on the Go on Wilshire Boulevard.

CET continued developing the Community Academy's curriculum, presenters, facility tours, scheduling, logistics, and graduation.
