Impress your kids with your new gaming knowledge after tuning into wave’s latest episode featuring the art of game design through a tour of the international independent gaming festival, IndieCade. Hosted by the Santa Monica College, the LA Times has called IndieCade “the video game industry's Sundance.”

Learn about the latest in unconventional games, such as an interactive pop-up book, a radio play escape room, a mobile game that transforms classic literature into puzzles, a physical game inspired by ramen, a psychological game that explores the tactics of pickup artists and a political game that deflects President Trump’s tweets. Artists, developers and producers provide insight into the various genres of game design and the research/development process that goes into producing games without the financial support of a publisher. In recent years, many indie games have surpassed AAA competition in terms of innovation in play, quality of subject matter and the impact on broader culture.

If you ever wondered how Minecraft, Undertale, Braid, and World of Goo got made, this episode is for you.
