Candidate Statement in English

Dear Neighbors,

I’m running for City Council because Santa Monica should be a place where people can build a life, not just get by.

I’m the son of immigrants who came to this country with very little and worked multiple jobs to give our family a shot at something better. That upbringing taught me what it takes to move forward against real odds, and it’s shaped everything I’ve done since, as an attorney working on complex legal and policy issues, and as Chair of the Santa Monica Rent Control Board, where I’ve helped protect one of the strongest tenant protection systems in California.

Like so many residents, I rely on the protections that make it possible to live here. I’ve seen how quickly rising costs can push people out, and how fragile that stability has become for working families, young professionals, and longtime residents alike.

Santa Monica faces real challenges: the cost of living keeps climbing, small businesses are struggling to recover, and residents deserve clean, safe neighborhoods they’re proud to call home.

I believe the answer isn’t more division, it’s bringing people together to actually solve problems. I’d be honored to earn your vote on November 3, 2026. Learn more about my campaign at www.electdannyivanov.com
