Candidate Statement in English

I’m Eli Gill. Santa Monica has been my home for more than 20 years. It is where my wife and I are raising two children in public schools, living in a rent-controlled apartment.

I am running for City Council because I want our children to inherit a city as full of opportunity as the one that welcomed us.

That means affordable housing, strong tenant protections, great public schools, safe streets, thriving local businesses, and clean, welcoming public spaces. It also means a city government that listens and delivers.

After a fatal collision at 19th and Idaho, I worked with neighbors to win four-way stops and make our intersections safer. That experience showed me what is possible when neighbors come together and refuse to accept that nothing can change.

I bring the perspective of a renter, public-school parent, neighborhood advocate, and business operations leader.

I am proudly endorsed by Santa Monica Forward, former Mayors Gleam Davis and Pam O’Connor, and Councilmembers Jesse Zwick and Barry Snell.

I believe Santa Monica’s best days are ahead. Together, we can build a safer, more affordable, vibrant city where everyone can enjoy an exceptional quality of life.
