The Campus Color Line
Tuesday, June 22, 2021
UCLA Education Professor Eddie Coles 2020 book The Campus Color Line studies how college presidents in the 1960s responded to the Civil Rights Movement. The dramatic central chapter focuses on UCLA, with its president caught between UC system head Clark Kerr, who attempted to ban student political organizing, and the student government, who voted to send bail money to classmates who had been jailed in Mississippi as Freedom Riders. Dr. Cole will discuss this and other fascinating stories and connect them to the present.
