Human Services Commission

Mission Statement

The goal of the Santa Monica Human Services Commission (HSC) is to advise City Council on priorities and strategies involving the well-being, equity, and needs of vulnerable, low income, and at-risk residents including youth and families, seniors, and people experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities, Jurisdiction, and Authority

The Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the social, economic, and wellness needs of vulnerable community members including, but not limited to, marginalized populations, low-income households, older adults, women and girls (including transgender women and girls), people of color, intersectional people with disabilities and people experiencing homelessness. 

In January 2026, City Council approved the consolidation of the Housing Commission and the Human Services Commission into a new Housing and Human Services Commission. In May 2026, City Council adopted changes to the Policies for Boards and Commissions and formalized changes to the new consolidated commission, which will begin in July 2026. The Housing and Human Services Commission will hold its inaugural meeting late-Summer 2026.
