Berkeley Street Speed Humps Design Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The City of Santa Monica is installing five (5) new speed humps on Berkeley Street between Stanford Street and Wilshire Boulevard to help reduce speeding and improve safety for everyone traveling through this residential neighborhood. These traffic‑calming improvements are designed to discourage cut‑through traffic, slow vehicle speeds, and create a safer environment for people walking, biking, and driving.

CONSTRUCTION

Construction Period: Construction on Berkeley Street will begin on Wednesday, August 19, with grinding operations.  The following day, Thursday, August 20, the new asphalt speed hump paving will take place. The operation of heavy equipment necessary to construct this project will create intermittent loud noise. Please note that the start and completion time/date of construction may be delayed due to unforeseen conditions and weather. 

Traffic Impacts: Berkeley Street between Stanford Street and Wilshire Boulevard will have limited access during construction. Please follow traffic control personnel’s direction as well as all temporary construction detour signs. It is recommended to plan an alternate route, if possible. Access to driveways will remain open during the project unless work is taking place directly in front of a driveway. On that occasion the property owner will be notified directly by the Contractor.

Parking: Parking around the work areas will not be permitted. No parking signs will be placed in areas where parking will not be allowed.
