Plant Swap and Seed Library Kickoff at Fairview Branch Library

March 26, 2018 9:57 AM

Santa Monica, California – Join the Fairview Branch Library as we sow the seeds of Spring with a Plant Swap and Seed Library Kickoff.  This 90-minute, drop-in program takes place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, beginning at 11:00 a.m at the Fairview Branch Library, 2101 Ocean Park Blvd.

Join fellow gardeners to share seeds, cuttings and transplants. Bring your own plants and seeds to swap with others and learn about the Fairview Branch’s new Seed Library.  The purpose of the Seed Library is to encourage the Santa Monica community to engage with one another in the healthy act of gardening and through the sharing of seeds and knowledge. Growing plants from local seeds strengthens biodiversity through the nurturing and preservation of locally-adapted seeds and builds on the City of Santa Monica’s commitment to sustainability. Whether you have seeds of your own to share or not, the Seed Library is free and open to all. Seed borrowers are not expected to return the exact seeds they borrow; we simply ask that when your plants have grown, you let several of them go to seed, collect a portion of those seeds and contribute them, and other seeds you have collected, back to the Seed Library for others to use.

This program is free and open to all. Seating is limited and on a first arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible. For disability-related accommodations, call Library Administration at (310) 458-8606 at least one week prior to event. The Fairview Branch Library is served by Big Blue Bus routes 8, 16 and 44. Ride your bike. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library.
