Bergamot Station Arts Center: Upcoming Events, Fun Community Activities and Exciting Future Plans

July 19, 2017 9:39 AM

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Last month, the Santa Monica City Council reaffirmed its commitment to support the arts by approving a conceptual plan for the revitalization of Bergamot Station Arts Center. The plan would attract an estimated $95 million in investment to Bergamot Station to ensure it remains a vibrant cultural arts venue for the city and region far into the future.

While the conceptual plan progresses into design and ultimately into phased building renovation and sensitive new infill construction over the next few years, Bergamot Station is and will continue to be a destination point for art and culture. Now that the Expo Light Rail train is in operation, Bergamot Station is more accessible than ever before.

All are invited to experience the internationally renowned arts destination. On July 22, Bergamot Station hosts its Summer Celebration with live music, local vendors, food trucks, and special events that are free and programmed for all ages. The festivities run from 1 to 5 p.m. at 2525 Michigan Avenue (immediately adjacent the 26th Street/ Bergamot Station on the Expo Light Rail).

The revitalization of Bergamot Station will add additional cultural uses over the next 5-10 years, including a museum or other anchor tenant; additional nonprofit, performing arts and cultural use space; substantial community gathering space; a bike center; a restaurant and café; and a boutique hotel. The City of Santa Monica is committed to ensuring Bergamot’s existence as a vibrant, spirited and inclusive world-class arts and cultural center for all.  To learn more about the revitalization of Bergamot Station, see a press release about the June 13 Council meeting.
