On September 20, 2017, at 7:30PM, the Soundwaves concert series at the Santa Monica Public Library will welcome Jacqueline Suzuki (violin,) James Sullivan (clarinet), Susan Svrcek (piano), and Lynn Angebranndt (cello) to the Main Library's Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium for a performance of Olivier Messiaen’s 1941 masterpiece,"Quartet for the End of Time," composed while he was in a Nazi prison camp.

All four performers are in-demand professionals, whom you may have seen with the Long Beach Symphony, the Santa Barbara Symphony, Ensemble Green, MESTO, the Brad Dutz Quartet, in other groups, or solo, including on the prestigious Piano Spheres series. They came together specifically to perform this beautiful, challenging, and historic piece, whose unusual instrumentation was determined by what Messiaen's fellow prisoners could play, and they have presented it many times around Southern California.

Soundwaves is a monthly concert series presenting artists who appear on the DRAM (Database of Recorded American Music) streaming service. The Santa Monica Public Library is the first public library to offer this service to its cardholders. Listings of past and upcoming Soundwaves shows as well as sound and video recordings are at SoundwavesNewMusic.com

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and on a first-arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible.
