Something for Everyone this Summer at the Annenberg Community Beach House

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Another great summer of fun is planned at the Annenberg Community Beach House, a City of Santa Monica-operated public facility just off the Pacific Coast Highway. The Beach House summer season begins Saturday, June 9, 2018 and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 3, 2018. All are invited to enjoy daily recreational swimming in the historic pool (reservations are never required), free cultural programs, community events, and recreation activities. There is no fee to enjoy many site features and amenities like the splash pad, playground, guest house docent tours and the summer game room.

In addition to a roster of enjoyable programs, guests will notice some upgrades, including new furniture at Santa Monica’s historic beachside facility. “We’re excited to showcase new outdoor furniture, including new chaise lounges and seating on the pool deck made possible with support from the Annenberg Foundation,” said Nan Friedman, Beach House Venue Manager. “We hope people will enjoy the refreshed site, more comfortable furniture, and new array of seating options.”

Pool: Drop In and Reservations

The pool will be open daily from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.* with walk-up pool passes on sale daily at 9 a.m. All members of the party must be present when purchasing passes. A limited number of reservations will be available one to three days in advance starting at 7 a.m., online via smgov.net/reserve. Account login required. Click ACTIVITIES, search keyword "ACBH POOL" and select an available date. Limit six pool passes and one parking reservation. Reservations must be picked up by 11 a.m.

*Pool closes at 5:30 p.m. on 8/25 to prepare for the Cardboard Yacht Regatta.

Summer Events and Activities

World's Largest Swimming Lesson - June 21, 7 -8 p.m.
The City of Santa Monica Community Aquatics partners with the World's Largest Swimming Lesson to offer free youth swimming lessons focusing on water safety. Held at the Beach House and Santa Monica Swim Center, this event is open to City of Santa Monica residents. Space is limited. For ages 6-10. Free RSVP available on first-come, first-served basis.

Out of the Blue, a series of creative projects showcasing art-making in action. From July 10 – August 12 visual Artist Molly Allis will be creating "The Storytelling Machine," a kinetic sculpture that tells the story of a child's wonderful day. From August 13 – August 31, artist and environmental activist Therese Kelly will illuminate our relationship with water in a hybrid art and interpretive project called "Under the Umbrella." Artists will lead workshops and tours showcasing the projects.

Beach Dances: Repetitions performance* – June 9, and June 10, 6:30 - 7 p.m. - Inspired by sacred geometries, cosmic alignments, resonant frequencies, random number generators and chladni plates, local dance company CARLON performs the world premiere of choreographer Jay Carlon's △▽△▽ [four triangles]. Free RSVP.

Pop-Up Library – Fridays, June 29 and August 10, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Santa Monica Public Library comes to the beach with family friendly activities, a curated collection of beach reads, beach games and a Surfside Lounge.

Community Picnic – Thursday, July 19, 6 - 8:30 p.m. An annual tradition; all are invited to pack a dinner, grab friends and family and head over to the Beach House for the Community Picnic. Planned activities include games, crafts, an epic tug-o-war and more.

Monday Fun Day – Every Monday, June 11 - August 27, 12 - 4 p.m. Planned crafts and activities for youth and their adults under a canopy on the sand.

Cardboard Yacht Regatta – Saturday August 25, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Teams of two test the seaworthiness of their homemade cardboard yachts in a race across the Beach House pool. Entrants must register and construct boats prior to the event, spectators are welcome.

Sunset Swim – July 13, August 10, and September 14, 7 – 10 p.m., Adults can feel like kids again and enjoy treats like s’mores or frozen fruit bars, and big pool floaties as the sun sets at this 18+ event.

In the Gallery – On view through September 6, Latinidad in Focus: Sin fronteras, featuring photographers Marilyn Montufar, Enio Hernandez and Vanessa Briones. This exhibition seeks to further the dialogue about immigrant culture, the current political climate as well as on each artists' experiences as first-generation Americans, and document Latino communities in the United States and Latin America.

Recreation and Workout Classes and CampsRegistration now open, classes and Elite Volleyball Camp begin June 10. Choose from a variety of recreation activities and sports, from beach volleyball camps and classes for youth and adults, stand up paddleboarding, BOGAFiT pool workouts, Yoga, and Aqualillies Synchronized Swim Class.
