Santa Monica Residents Avoid PCH to Help with Evacuations

November 9, 2018 11:27 AM

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The Woosley Wildfire in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties has prompted mandatory and voluntary evacuations of some areas of Malibu and areas near the 101.  Be aware that sections of the 101 Freeway and Canyon roads are closed. Pacific Coast Highway is currently significantly impacted southbound. To facilitate Malibu evacuation traffic, all Santa Monica Westbound and Northbound entrances to the 10 Freeway are closed. Exits off Pacific Coast Highway into Santa Monica may also be closed to prevent back-ups. Please check  for updated traffic information.

There are no warnings for Santa Monica at this time. Individuals who live in non-evacuated areas of Malibu are advised to be ready for an evacuation order and to evacuate early. Use the following steps to ensure your household is prepared to evacuate:

  1. Review your evacuation checklist.
  2. Put your disaster kit in your vehicle.
  3. Wear appropriate clothing. It is recommended to wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, heavy boots, a hat, and mask to protect yourself from heat and smoke.
  4. Locate your pets and evacuate with them.
  5. Know where your location evacuation centers are located and how you would get there.
