Paola Escobar Named Annenberg Community Beach House 2019 Choreographer-in-Residence

July 25, 2019 2:58 PM

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The City of Santa Monica’s Cultural Affairs division has selected choreographer Paola Escobar as the choreographer-in-residence at the Annenberg Community Beach House for 2019. During her time at the Beach House (July 8 to October 9, 2019), Escobar will engage with guests in a spirited conversation about the possibilities of movement, their own choreographic inclinations and what it means to belong. Using public engagement as the core of her practice, she will create a new dance performance on the themes of nomadism, migration, and home within contemporary society.

Escobar will present a culminating site-specific work, tentatively titled Darning & Patching without a Nail. All are invited to follow and participate in the performance as an act of healing, an invitation to activism, and a rite of decolonization.
