Santa Monica, CA – Save the date! On August 17, 2019 the Santa Monica Animal Shelter will join NBC4 Southern California and Telemundo 52 for the fifth annual pet adoption event “Clear the Shelters”. Animal shelters throughout Southern California, and across the nation will open their doors from 10am- 5pm to offer the public reduced fees of $20 per pet adoption.

Clear the Shelters raises awareness about the benefits of pet adoption and aims to reduce the animal overpopulation at local shelters.  During the campaign NBC4 and Telemundo 52 will cover news stories to spotlight the issue, including the importance of spaying/neutering, the benefits of micro-chipping, and helping families find the right pet for their homes.

As part of this initiative, the public is encouraged to share photos with their pets on social media using the hashtag #Adoptdontshopsm, which will be shared in photo galleries by NBC and Telemundo 52. If you adopt in Santa Monica, share your photos on the Santa Monica Animal Shelter’s Facebook page with hashtag #AdoptSantaMonica.

The Clear the Shelters initiative seeks to get as many homeless animals into loving homes as possible.
