Light the Barricades and Memories of Diaspora: Immigration Narratives of Los Angeles Now on View at the Annenberg Community Beach House

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Santa Monica Cultural Affairs announces the Light the Barricades public art installation by Candy Chang and James A. Reeves and Memories of Diaspora: Immigration Narratives of Los Angeles exhibition by Art Division at the Annenberg Community Beach House

Light the Barricades is presented by the Annenberg Space for Photography as a multi-site public art installation consisting of three separate 8’ x 27’ solar-powered walls illuminated from within, located at different sites in Los Angeles County. One of the three wall installations will be hosted at the Annenberg Community Beach House. Following the initial display period, all three walls will be brought to the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City as part of its W|ALLS: Defend, Divide, and the Divine exhibit, which opens October 5, 2019. Installation details:

Memories of Diaspora: Immigration Narratives of Los Angeles celebrates the Beach House’s tenth-anniversary theme of “Shared Memory” by conveying the intense personal struggles, hopes, and dreams that comprise the immigrant experience. The exhibition features work by Art Division students who are first-generation Angelenos with work by Art Division faculty and artists from Oaxaca, Mexico, whose art depicts family memories of journeying north to cross the border. The exhibit is curated by Art Division Executive Director Dan McCleary, Director of Painting and Drawing Luis Serrano and Assistant to the Director, Dagmar Brown.
