SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office will work with public interest groups the National Lawyers Guild LA, Public Counsel, and the ACLU SoCal on a free legal clinic for street vendors this Saturday, September 14.

Following the enactment of state law decriminalizing street vending across California, Santa Monica developed a sidewalk vending permitting program that balances expanding economic opportunity with protecting the public’s health and safety. Attorneys from the National Lawyers Guild LA, Public Counsel, and the ACLU SoCal will be available at the free clinic to meet with street vendors and discuss state law provisions allowing for the dismissal of certain prior criminal convictions and pending misdemeanor or infraction citations for street vending. Members of the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office will also be on hand to answer questions on the City’s sidewalk vending ordinance and administrative regulations.
