Help Santa Monica Public Library Reach Our Summer Reading Goal

June 21, 2021 9:26 AM

Join the Santa Monica Public Library Summer Reading program to help us reach our community reading goal of 500,000 minutes read. The free, all-ages program, Reading Colors Your World, kicks off on Monday, June 21, 2021.

Register online at smpl.beanstack.org or in person at the Main Library, Pico Branch Curbside, and Montana Avenue Branch Curbside. Track your reading over the summer to earn prizes. Kids and teens earn special activity kits at 300 and 600 minutes read, and adults are entered into a prize drawing after 600 minutes read. This program is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library.

Visit our program page for more information and to register for the interactive family friendly programs scheduled throughout the summer.

Teens ages 14-18 can register here for the free program The Writes of Summer: A Novel Writing Workshop for Teens, led by authors Suzanne Park (Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous) and Liz Lawson (The Lucky Ones) on Saturday, June 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For adults, the annual Santa Monica Reads program, featuring book discussions and special events begins June 28. A free book giveaway of this year’s featured title, The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue, starts Monday, June 21. Books are available while supplies last. Emma Donoghue will join us on Saturday, August 21, at 2 p.m. for a virtual author talk; access the program at bit.ly/32FOHUz.

Generous support of Summer Reading and Santa Monica Reads provided by the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library. The Friends is a non-profit volunteer organization that focuses on volunteering, fundraising, and support of the Library.

We look forward to seeing you at the Library this summer! In-person service is now available at the Main Library, and contactless Curbside Pickup service is available at the Montana Avenue and Pico Branches. For a full list of programs and Library resources, as well as Library locations and hours, please visit our website at smpl.org
