Calling All Trades: Jobs for a Green Economy Workshop Series

July 1, 2021 8:43 AM

The City of Santa Monica’s Economic Recovery Task Force will be presenting Calling All Trades: Jobs for a Green Economy, an 8-part speaker series.  Experienced educators and trades professionals will share the challenges, successes, and current insider perspectives about careers in the trades and attendees will gain knowledge about how to pursue jobs in the growing green economy.

This online series intends to inform, prepare, and encourage people who may be interested in having a career in the trades such as electrical, plumbing, electric vehicle infrastructure, and renewable energy.  Speakers will discuss the importance of recognizing opportunities in the trades and how to pursue the pre-requisite education, finding employment, and the soft skills needed to climb the ladder in the trades. The speakers will share invaluable information about their own occupational journeys and what they learned about themselves in the pursuit of their career goals.

The series is co-hosted by Michael Jackson and Drew Johnstone with the City of Santa Monica. Michael Jackson is the Community Services Program Coordinator in the City of Santa Monica’s Housing and Human Services Division.  Michael is responsible for coordinating the City’s Trades Intern Program.  Drew Johnstone is a Senior Sustainability Analyst in the City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment and leads the City’s green building policies and programs.

The series will be presented via Zoom on Wednesdays, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting on Wednesday, July 7th.  To join the Zoom meetings, visit https://bit.ly/363xfvt (Meeting ID: 971 3374 9808, Passcode: f6acqk). The series will be recorded and made available via santamonica.gov/hirelocal.
