Burglary Tools & Drug Paraphernalia Arrest

On February 4, 2022 at about 2:30 AM, SMPD Officers were working directed enforcement in response to recent catalytic converter thefts, when they noticed a black Honda Odyssey commit a traffic violation.  Officers conducted a traffic stop of that vehicle in the 1000 block of 11th Street.  

When officers contacted the occupants. They noticed a battery-powered reciprocating saw, in plain view, staged to be readily accessible.  As SMPD officers continued to investigate, they also discovered a floor jack, saw blades, and other miscellaneous tools inside the vehicle.   A computer check revealed that the driver was unlicensed and on probation for Grand Theft - 487 PC.  Officers also located drug paraphernalia commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, on the passenger’s person.   Both individuals were arrested and transported to the Santa Monica Police Jail, where they were booked for Possession of Burglary Tools.  The driver was also charged for driving without a license, and the passenger for possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
