Volunteers Needed for the Santa Monica Homeless Count Held on January 25, 2023

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The Santa Monica Homeless Count will be held on January 25, 2023, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Community located at 725 California Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90403. Volunteers are needed and are asked to sign up as soon as possible with pre-formed teams of three to four for the annual event.
The Homeless Count is a point-in-time census of people experiencing homelessness overseen regionally by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) as a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Point-in-Time Count and Housing Inventory Count - HUD Exchange.
The information gleaned from the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is used by policymakers and service providers to better understand and implement solutions to address homelessness. In Santa Monica, the information is used to both understand the number of people living without shelter as well as other trends, including concentrations of homelessness throughout the city. From there, the City and its service provider partners can focus resources in the areas of greatest need.
