Juveniles Charged with Aggravated Assault

At 11:24 AM on April 19, 2023, Santa Monica Police Officers responded to the 400 block of Colorado Avenue for a report of a fight. The officers located and rendered aid to an adult male victim suffering from several cuts and bruises caused from an assault by multiple attackers. The victim and witnesses were able to describe the suspects and direction of travel and they were soon taken into custody without incident.

All the suspects are from Los Angeles and are juveniles. They were transported to the police station, processed, and then released per County rules related to youthful offenders to their respective parents/guardians. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to statements from the victim, the incident started with a confrontation on a westbound E-Line train and ended with the attack that occurred on the light rail train platform at 4th and Colorado and the sidewalk adjacent to the platform. The Santa Monica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, which handles incidents on the light rail system, successfully filed the case with the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Assault charges were filed against the two juveniles seen striking the victim with their skateboards.
