Shooting Investigation

Santa Monica, CA – On August 23, 2026, at approximately 7:49 p.m., Santa Monica Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting near the Pier ramp.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a victim was approached by a group of individuals and an altercation occurred during an attempted robbery. During the altercation, one individual fired a weapon, striking the victim in the leg.
Officers provided emergency medical aid, and the victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The individuals fled the scene. Officers are actively investigating and working to identify and locate those involved. Additional confirmed information will be released as it becomes available.
