September 2, 2026 12:57 PM

Santa Monica, CA – As the Labor Day weekend approaches, the Santa Monica Police Department encourages residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly and make safety part of their plans.

The holiday weekend traditionally brings increased activity throughout the city, including at the beach, Pier, Downtown, parks, residential neighborhoods, and other popular destinations. With more people traveling throughout the city, SMPD encourages everyone to keep a few simple safety reminders in mind:

·       Plan for a safe ride. If your celebration includes alcohol, designate a sober driver, use public transportation, or arrange for a rideshare or taxi.

·       Slow down, stay alert and share the road. Expect increased vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic throughout the city. Follow posted speed limits and give yourself additional time to reach your destination.

·       Secure your vehicle. Lock your doors, close your windows, and do not leave valuables, bags, electronics, or other belongings visible inside your vehicle.

·       Keep personal belongings close. In busy public areas, remain aware of your surroundings and keep phones, wallets, purses, and other valuables secure.

·       Follow beach and Pier safety rules. Pay attention to posted signs, restricted areas, and instructions from public safety personnel.

·       Report suspicious or concerning activity. See something. Say Something.

Throughout the Labor Day weekend, residents and visitors can expect to see SMPD personnel throughout Santa Monica. Officers will be there to provide a visible public safety presence, provide traffic control, and help ensure everyone can enjoy the holiday safely.

Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend, Santa Monica.
