How to Obtain an Overnight Oversize Vehicle Parking Permit

Effective 3/14/2024, permits will be valid within 2 blocks of the applicant’s address and a maximum of 7 days per month will be issued for a vehicle not reflecting the applicants Santa Monica address.

Recreational vehicles and non-commercial passenger vehicles that exceed eight feet in width, eight feet in height, or twenty feet in length must display an Overnight Oversize Parking permit between the hours of 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM within 2 blocks of applicant's address. 

To apply for an Overnight Oversized Parking permit, you must be a Santa Monica resident and provide ID, current proof of residency and the current vehicle registration. No more than one (1) Overnight Oversize parking permit may be issued in any thirty-day period per residential address. 

PLEASE NOTE: If dropping off documents in person, it will take up to 5 business days to pick up your Overnight Oversize Parking permit. You will be contacted by email once the permit is ready to be picked up. 

Our hours of operation are 8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and every other Friday.

  2. Gather Information

    TO APPLY FOR AN OVERSIZE OVERNIGHT PARKING PERMIT, YOU MUST PROVIDE:

    • Completed Overnight Oversize Parking Permit Application.
    • Valid Government Issued ID (e.g.; driver’s license, passport, etc.)
    • Valid Vehicle Registration for which a permit is being requested.
    • Proof of Residency: a current utility, cable, internet, bank or credit card bill.   All statements must be from the last 30 days, include your name, and match the current Santa Monica address.

  3. Email the Information to Us

    Once you have gathered all of the information you may email it to us at Parking@santamonica.gov

  4. Approval

    Once approved, we will  mail you the permit or you can pick up the permit in person.  Our hours of operation are 8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and every other Friday.  Please allow 5 business days for approval.
