How to Reserve a Summer Canopy at the Annenberg Community Beach House

During summer, canopies on the sand are available to reserve for small casual gatherings.

Canopy reservations accommodate a limit of one canopy for groups up to 30 and include a 10’ x 15’ canopy and two 5’ plastic tables. No chairs included. The fee is $60 for a four-hour reservation from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 2 – 6 p.m. Reservations are available up to 28 days in advance, online only through Reserve Santa Monica. Same-day reservations are not available. Pool access is not included with canopy reservations. Please refer to Beach House Rules for prohibited items and activities.

- Click on the drop-down menu for "Facility/Equipment Group", select “ACBH Canopy”.
- Select the reservation date up to 28 days in advance.
- Type in AM or PM, there are two four-hour time blocks available, morning or afternoon.
- Click “Check Availability." A red check indicates a time slot is no longer available.
- Submit payment by credit card. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and Diner’s Club International are accepted. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- A reservation confirmation will be sent via email but is not needed to check-in.

Check-in at the Guest Services office for directions to your canopy on the sand.
Once you have confirmed your canopy location with staff, you are welcome to unload your items near the canopy and move in as soon as the tables are set up and ready to go. The morning reservation will be available by 9 a.m. The afternoon reservation will be available by 2 p.m.

What comes with my canopy reservation?

The four-hour reservation includes one 10’ x 15’ canopy in the sand, two 5’ plastic tables, and accommodates groups up to 30.

Beach chairs are not included with the reservation, you are welcome to bring your own.

Pool access is not included with canopy reservations.

What if reservations are not available?

Canopies are available seasonally; typically weekends starting Memorial Day Weekend, daily during the summer through Labor Day, and weekends in September.

If canopy reservations are booked or unavailable, you are welcome to bring your own canopy, tables, and chairs to set up in the sandy areas with a limit of one canopy, no larger than 12’ x 12.

For groups larger than 30, it is recommended to host your gathering west of the bike path on Santa Monica State Beach.

Please note, rental deliveries are not allowed. Please review the Beach House Rules to keep in mind while planning your gathering.

Can I reserve more than one canopy or more than one time slot on the same day? Can I bring my own additional canopy?

Canopies are distanced on-site, so reserving more than one canopy per time slot will separate your group. Canopies may not be moved, and are not meant for a group to reserve more than one.

You may bring one additional canopy, no larger than 12’ x 12’, and must move or remove the additional canopy at the conclusion of your reservation.

You may book the canopy for both the morning and afternoon if your gathering goes longer than four hours and if the time slot is available.

For groups larger than 30, it is recommended to host your gathering west of the bike path on Santa Monica State Beach.

Limits on group size and canopy reservations allow the public space to be used by multiple groups without being exclusive to one group.

Can I have a bouncy house, character performers, activity leaders, music and catering?

Bouncy houses are not allowed on Santa Monica State Beach, including the Beach House.

Character performers and activity leaders are welcome though please be sensitive to how much space your group is using.

Please refrain from installing items in the sand that could be trip hazards or unseen hazards.

Acoustic music is allowed. Amplified music and sound including personal speakers are not permitted.

You can bring food, or have it delivered. Caterers and food vendors are not allowed to set up at the Beach House. Open flames are not allowed, including chafing dish fuel. Casual beachy food works great at the Beach House! There is no refrigeration available, and we are not able to hold any items in our facility.

Can I decorate my canopy?

Please note that balloons of any kind are not permitted.

Yes, you may decorate your canopy with banners and signs as long as all décor is removed when your reservation concludes.

You may not install canopy sides, the canopy must remain open on all sides.

Please refrain from installing items in the sand that could be trip hazards or unseen hazards.
