Organics Recycling for Residents

Beginning January 1, 2022, all residents are required to separate organics from recyclables and landfill trash using a three-container system: green for organics recycling, blue for non-organics recycling, and black for trash.

Each resident should learn how to use the three-container system by familiarizing themselves with what types of materials go into each of the colored containers.

If you do not yet have a green organics container, you can contact  the Resource Recovery and Recycling Division using one of the methods below.

Continue the Process:

To request a green organics container for your property by email, contact us at 311@santamonica.gov and provide your name, email address, contact phone number, and your City water, sewer, and trash services utility account number.

The person needs to be a responsible party of the City utility bill of the property receiving the green bin.

If you live in an apartment or condominium complex, you will need to contact your property owner, property manager, or HOA representative to have them request an organics recycling container for the building.
