The City Clerk directs the operation of the City Clerk’s Department, which includes maintaining the City’s legislative history; administering municipal elections; ensuring compliance with the Political Reform Act; preparing the legislative agendas and minutes; attending City Council meetings; directing the operation of the City’s Mail Room and Print Shop; and administering the City’s Record Management Program.
City Clerk Denise Anderson-Warren is a 26-year veteran of the Santa Monica City Clerk’s Office. Anderson-Warren served as Assistant City Clerk for five years prior to the City Council appointing her as City Clerk. She obtained her certification as a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) in 2003 from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). She also served: as Region XI Director on the City Clerks Association of California (CCAC) Executive Board; on Committees on Professional Development and Annual CCAC Conference Planning; and served as a Mentor for new and upcoming Clerks.
