Civic Participation

How are we doing?

The City of Santa Monica recognizes the importance of voting and Santa Monica residents exercising their civic duty. In an effort to increase voter participation, the City works closely with the County and the State to remove barriers and making voting easier.

In the 2020 General Election, Vote-By-Mail (VBM) ballots were mailed to reigstered voters. Los Angeles County installed VBM Drop-Off boxes, including five boxes in Santa Monica. The length of time to recieve VBM were also extended. The State implemented a new tracking system for ballot called, Where's My Ballot?

There were several in-person voting centers available. Two centers were open 11 days before election day and eight centers were open 5-days before elections.
