Board Announces 2026 General Adjustment and Sets Public Hearing

At their May meeting, the Rent Control Board announced that the 2026 General Adjustment (GA) will be 2.6% effective September 1, 2026. The GA is based on 75% of the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for the Los Angeles area for the 12-month period ending in March, which was reported as 3.4%.The Board will hold a public hearing on June 11 to consider whether to apply a dollar-amount ceiling to this increase according to a formula in the Rent Control Charter. If approved by the Board, a cap of $70 would apply to all units with Maximum Allowable Rents (MARs) of $2,674 and above. In late June, the Rent Control Agency will mail to all property owners or their authorized agents specific information regarding the MAR for each of their registered units and by how much rents may be increased if eligible.

A unit is eligible if it meets all of the following requirements:

The tenancy began before September 1, 2025.
The tenancy has been properly registered with the Rent Control Agency.
The required written notice of the rent increase is provided in compliance with state law.
The property has no uncorrected citations for health, safety, or housing code violations.
All registration fees and penalties owed to the Rent Control Board are paid in full by August 3, 2026.
The property is otherwise in compliance with the Rent Control Law.
