SMART Center & Public Safety Technology

The Santa Monica Police Department uses technology to help officers and investigators understand what is happening, respond more effectively, and develop reliable investigative leads.

At the center of that work is the Santa Monica Analytical Real-Time Center, or SMART Center, a centralized operations hub that brings together authorized public safety information and technology to support officers, dispatchers, supervisors, and investigators.

Technology can provide information. People make the decisions. The use of technology does not replace an officer's responsibility to verify information, follow the law, exercise sound judgment, and remain accountable for their actions.
