How to Obtain a Copy of a Police Report

Continue the Process:

You may request a copy of a police report that has already been filed through the following online process.

  1. Register for an account.

    Visit here to create an account that allows access to the Public Records Request Center.

  2. Submit an online request.

    Using your newly created credentials, login in to create a Public Records Request. Ensure "Police" is selected under the "Division and Department" field. Please include as much detail as possible when requesting records including, date, time, and location and incident number if available.

    Upon submittal, the City, in accordance with Government Code Section 7922.535, has ten (10) days to respond. This response must indicate whether or not the documents exist and can be made available. 

  3. Pay a fee if required.

    After the request is received by the Santa Monica Police Department, a representative from the Records Unit will contact you with the fee required for your request.
