Pedestrian Action Plan

The Pedestrian Action Plan recognizes and celebrates walking as a core part of Santa Monica's identity and character, while laying out a specific vision, standards, priority projects, and programs to guide improvements through 2031. Hundreds of Santa Monicans were engaged in a discussion about walking in their community and their input shaped the plan by defining the major themes and focus areas for future action. Community input was clear: Santa Monicans care deeply about walking in their community with concerns about the quality of walking, safety and the care of others. Central to that mission is the establishment of Vision Zero Santa Monica, a cross-cutting policy directive toward eliminating pedestrian fatalities and reducing the severity of collisions.

The Pedestrian Action Plan was adopted by City Council on February 23, 2016.
