How to Submit for a Building Permit Revision

A building permit revision is required when the scope of an active/issued building permit for construction is modified or revised due to changes requested by the applicant, changes required due to field conditions, or other scenarios where the scope of the project description or design are modified.

All building permit applications, including revisions, require that the application materials and plans are submitted online.

Continue the Process:
  1. Gather and prepare documents

    + -

Prepare and complete your project documents to best identify the aspects of the project requesting to be revised (e.g., Permit Revision application, project plans, structural calculations, soils report, etc.). You will need to provide copies of the previously approved/stamped documents, as well as the corresponding documents that clearly identify where the requested revisions are proposed.

  2. Submit application online

    + -

Create/submit application for the permit revision request in Citizen Access (step-by-step instructions here). Once the application creation process is completed in Citizen Access then the applicant will receive an email invitation to ProjectDox to proceed with registering for a ProjectDox account (if new user) and uploading of necessary documents.

A new project number will be assigned to the permit revision request. This newly assigned number is not a building permit number and is used only to track the revision request and its review. Once the permit revision has completed the review process and is approved, the revised scope of work will be added to the project description of the original building permit number. You will continue to schedule inspections using the original building permit number.

  3. Upload documents to ProjectDox

    + -

Upload to ProjectDox the completed Permit Revision application, project plans, and other related documentation specifically pertaining to the areas of work where revisions are being requested to the original permit. View tutorial on How to Upload files to EPR

    • Applications, structural calculations, soils report, means and methods plans and other similar documentation should be uploaded to the 'Supporting Docs' folder
    • Project plans should be uploaded to the 'Plans' folder. Each plans sheet should be uploaded as a separate PDF file. See EPR Upload and Submittal Standards for file naming, file size, and other standards.
    • The previously stamped/approved plan sheets affected by the requested revisions should be uploaded into the 'Plans' folder first.
    • The plans containing the requested revisions should then be uploaded using the exact same filename as the file it is replacing so that a Version 2 ('V2') of the file overlays the stamped/approved file.

  4. Prescreen

    + -

A Permit Specialist will process the application and prescreen the submittal to prepare it for review.

  5. Plan Review

    + -

Project is routed to the applicable reviewers based on the scope of the requested revisions.

  6. Review Completed

    + -

Once all reviewers have approved the plan review, you may visit a Permit Specialist to pay fees and finalize the requested permit revision.
