HAPPY BIRTHDAY - The Main Street Community Garden turns 50 !!!!
Join us for a morning of fun as we celebrate 50 YEARS OF COMMUNITY GARDENS.
Twas in 1976 that the City of Santa Monica, prodded along by residents eager to have gardening space, dedicated this prime real estate to urban greening and thus the Main St. Community Garden grew. The success and interest led to the creation of others, and in June we'll be celebrating the opening of the 7th Garden in this program. All thanks to those people back in the 1970's who saw the need and importance of these community spaces.

For 5 decades, this space has served the purpose of being a unique habitat. That involves both the flora and fauna that exist within the fences, as well as the community of people that have helped make this a model of Public Land Stewardship in southern California.
