During the week, the Santa Monica Police Department focused on violent-crime response, major felony warrant apprehensions, homelessness engagement, and traffic safety operations across the city. Officers responded to multiple incidents involving armed suspects, including a pursuit linked to an out-of-state homicide, in addition to felony arrests connected to parole violations, narcotics offenses, and weapons possession. Personnel conducted targeted enforcement and service outreach throughout Downtown, the beach, and parks, resulting in service referrals, warrant arrests, and mental-health interventions. Traffic units investigated significant collisions, continued hit-and-run follow-up, and performed grant-funded enforcement in high-collision areas. Community engagement teams supported holiday events, youth programming, and department-wide outreach.

Crime Suppression


Across all watches and specialized units, personnel made multiple felony arrests for violent crimes, weapons possession, narcotics, parole violations, and outstanding warrants.

Description

Assault on Officers / Use of Force – 2000 Ocean Ave

A male transient threatened officers stating he had a gun, then struck an officer in the head. 

Homicide-Related Vehicle Pursuit – Ocean Ave & Santa Monica Blvd → I-10 EB

A vehicle wanted in a Washington State homicide and carjacking fled from officers, leading to a freeway pursuit with multiple non-injury collisions. Valuable evidence was recovered from the vehicle; the suspect fled on foot and was not located.

Assault with a Knife – Tongva Park

A victim was stabbed in the finger during an altercation involving two suspects. A K-9 officer located the primary suspect, who was identified and taken into custody.

Shots Fired / Firearm Recovered – Crescent Bay Park

Officers responded to reports of gunfire. A suspect was detained and booked for drug paraphernalia, ammunition, burglary tools, and parole violations. A firearm was later recovered and video evidence showed the suspect discharging it. No injuries were reported.

Felony Warrant Arrest

During a downtown operation, officers arrested a subject with a full extradition warrant for felony assault on a police officer out of San Francisco County.

Strong-Arm Robbery Series – Colorado Ave Corridor

Officers detained suspects involved in multiple robberies of cell phones from pedestrians. Property linking the suspects to two additional robberies was recovered.

Weapons Arrests

·        Nielson Way & Pacific
During a traffic stop, the driver attempted to flee. A loaded, un-serialized “ghost gun” was recovered from his waistband.

·        2nd & Broadway
During an equipment-violation stop, officers located a handgun inside the vehicle.

Stay-Away Violations, Sex-Offender Violations, and Parole Warrants

DART made numerous arrests including:

·        Failure to register as a transient sex offender

·        Probation and PRCS no-bail warrants

·        Felon in possession of ammunition

·        Sexual battery and stay-away order violation

Felony Assault / Warrant Arrests – Downtown and Parks

CIT and HLP operations resulted in arrests for felony warrants, narcotics possession, and PRCS violations, including a suspect wanted for felony assault on a police officer out of San Francisco County.


Traffic Enforcement


Traffic units, patrol watches, conducted  grant-funded enforcement operations in high-collision corridors and investigated significant traffic incidents.

Pedestrian Collision – 800 Pico Blvd

A pedestrian was struck while crossing from the center median; the victim remains in medical care.


Homelessness Response


The Homeless Liaison Program, DART, Patrol, CIT, and Harbor personnel conducted coordinated outreach, enforcement, and service connections citywide. Directed deployments in downtown, beach corridors, and parks resulted in enforcement of doorway violations and after-hours park activity.  Cleanups of abandoned items were also organized around the City.

Veteran Outreach on Thanksgiving Day

HLP contacted two military veterans living on flattened cardboard in Downtown. Officers successfully connected them to New Directions Veterans Program and provided additional resource referrals.

Mental-Health Intervention – Montana Ave

HLP DMH clinician and officers assisted CID with a subject placed on a 5150 hold.

Felony Warrant Arrest – Ocean Front Walk

Officers arrested a subject with a no-bail warrant from Merced County during a consensual encounter.

Additional Warrant & Narcotics Arrests – Downtown

Multiple arrests for possession of narcotics, smoking violations, and PRCS warrants.


Community & Youth Engagement


The Community Engagement Team (CET) and other units maintained a strong presence at major local events and neighborhood meetings, fostering communication and public safety awareness.

PAL Thanksgiving Dinner

The Executive Team, Community Engagement Team and  School Resource Officers participated in the annual youth and family Thanksgiving event, supporting setup, serving, and engagement.

Neighborhood & Business Engagement

·        Assisted The Shore Hotel with Community Academy planning

·        Conducted mediation for a neighborhood dispute with potential mental-health concerns
