General Election 2026

At Western Center on Law & Poverty, I represent tenants facing displacement. On the City Council and Planning Commission, I championed lowering the cap on annual rent increases to 3% for rent controlled tenants, protecting Section 8 renters from discrimination, preventing rental units from being converted into short-term rentals like Airbnb, and shielding teachers and students from mid-year evictions. I was a proponent and funder of Measures GS-GSH (2016) and GS (2022), which together have generated more than $60 million to date for financial and legal assistance to at-risk Santa Monica renters, and for affordable housing creation.

I want to serve on the Rent Control Board to continue defending our renter neighbors against displacement, and our rent-controlled housing stock against redevelopment into luxury housing. I believe tenants should never be displaced from their homes absent a genuine safety necessity.
