Candidate Statement in English

It is vitally important that the Santa Monica Rent Control Board remains renter-centered. This is why I am running for the Santa Monica Rent Control Board to ensure policy decisions represent the best interests of residents.

My priorities are to establish an Ethics Commission for greater staff transparency, accountability, and operations oversight; increase protections and resources for disabled and roommate renters; establish cohesion and integration of the Code Enforcement Department and the City Attorney Consumer Protection Division; and provide greater oversight of the Judicial Affairs of the Rent Control Administration. Santa Monica Rent Control needs proactive leadership that is responsive to the renters of the city and fights the increasing tenant harassment strategies property owners use to force renters out of their rent-controlled units. We need to host Legal Clinics in Santa Monica parks.

I am a 24-year renter/resident, small business owner, founder of Compassionate Santa Monica, Giving Tuesday Santa Monica, bilingual educator, community advocate, and former Santa Monica College student (member of the SMC General Advisory Board). I am committed to ensuring Santa Monica remains affordable and accessible to residents of every background and ability in every neighborhood of our beloved city.

I am proud to be endorsed by local leaders from our neighborhoods and neighboring cities. I am asking and would be honored to have your vote.
