Bergamot Connector
Project Information
The Santa Monica Department of Public Works was recently awarded an LA Metro Active Transportation (MAT) grant to support the City’s Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (MANGo), Bergamot Connector Project. The Bergamot Connector Project will improve connectivity for residents and visitors to Bergamot Station, promote alternative modes of transportation, and enhance safety for all roadway users.
Proposed Treatments
- Protected bike lane on Michigan Avenue between 21st and 22nd Streets
- Bike lane on Michigan Avenue between 22nd Street and Bergamot Arts Center
- Conversion of Michigan Avenue into a one-way between 21st and 22nd Streets
- Curb extensions and ADA-compliant curb ramps
- Traffic signal modifications
- Wayfinding signage
Project Goals
First Last Mile Connection
The Project improves access to transit by creating a safe, accessible, and continuous corridor for people of all ages and abilities to reach key transit hubs like the Bergamot Station and the Expo Bike and Pedestrian Path.
Neighborhood Connectivity
The Project fulfills the community's vision by improving safety and connectivity for people walking and biking between the Pico Neighborhood, parks, schools, employment centers, and regional transit, ultimately strengthening connections between Santa Monica and the greater Los Angeles region
Project Schedule
- March 2026 - June 2027: Engagement, Planning, and Design
- July 2027 - December 2027: Bidding and Award Construction Contract
- January 2028 - April 2029: Construction
