Hispanic Heritage Month: Mexican Ballet Folklórico

Experience the vibrant spirit of Mexican cultural traditions from Chiapas to Norte! In this interactive workshop, dancer Manuel Fonseca will perform and teach participants folklórico dance and musician Jorge Herrera will showcase Mexican folk music and instruments. 

Manuel Fonseca, M.A., Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist & Professional Dancer earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California Santa Cruz in 1997. He previously served as dance director of a university student-run Mexican Folk dance troupe. 

Jorge Herrera is a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at UCLA, and is also a  professor of History, Chicano Studies and Mexican music at Cal State University, Fullerton. As a musician and musical director for his group “Hermanos Herrera,” he plays the requinto jarocho, violin and accordion.
