Noise
Noise ordinances are regulations created by governments to control noise levels. High noise levels can have a negative effect on the health of a population. Local governments use noise ordinances to limit excessive noise and keep the noise impacts to acceptable levels.
The Santa Monica Noise Ordinance is found in Chapter 4.12 of the Municipal Code. This chapter contains most of the noise standards for the City. These standards cover a wide range of uses and sources of noise. There are other sections of the code which deal with specific noise sources, such as Street Performers, or the Pier or Promenade. Code Enforcement is the primary agency responsible for addressing noise violations. The Police Dept. also assists in addressing these concerns, especially outside of normal City Hall business hours.
