Registered participants can track their reading progress and earn tickets for the chance to win exciting prizes. Participants ages 4 – 18 can enter to win a Nintendo Switch 2, while adults ages 18+ can enter to win a Kobo eReader. Participants who register in person will also receive birthday-themed goody bags – in celebration of the Main Library’s 20th birthday – featuring surprise treats from SMPL, the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library, and local businesses, while supplies last.
Santa Monica Public Library's Summer Reading Program is designed to combat the “summer slide,” helping youth maintain and build their reading and learning skills during the school break. Open to kids, teens, and adults, the program offers something for everyone, from engaging reading challenges to exciting events throughout the summer. Participants can track their reading minutes and activities, with opportunities to earn fun prizes at the halfway point and upon completing their challenge. This program not only encourages a lifelong love of reading but also fosters learning and creativity for the whole community.
SMPL’s Summer Reading Program is supported by the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library and the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica.
